| Last year, Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism Group Travel Section launched the "I Rode the Civil War Trail" motorcycle brochure. An additional promotion was for riders to complete the eight Civil War trails in Arkansas to receive an "I Rode the Civil War Trail" patch. The first two riders to visit all of the sites were Johnny and Mildred Glascock of Blytheville. | |
![]() |
The married couple completed the ride together and each received a patch. They took photos along the route and told us how much they liked the ride, "this event is a lot of fun and very informative. We are really glad we took the time to complete this," the couple said. |
| The trails they completed include Prairie Grove, Pea Ridge, the Little Rock Campaign, the Attack on Pine Bluff, the Confederate Approach to Helena, the Camden Expedition, Price's Raid, and Ozark to the Battle of Fayetteville. The actual routes taken by troops are highlighted in the brochure. If you are planning on riding the trail to earn a patch the rules are as follows: participants are to send photos accompanied by a brief description to grouptravel@arkansas.com upon completion of all eight rides. Brochures are downloadable from www.arkansasheritagetrails.com/civil-war/. They are available by e-mailing grouptravel@arkansas.com or from one of the 13 Arkansas Welcome Centers located at strategic entry points into the state. For more information contact Renee Robison by e-mail at renee.robison@arkansas.gov or by phone at 501-682-1219 or 800-872-1259. |

AHM - 12/19/2008 Torrance, California-American Honda announced today that the 2008 Honda Hoot will bring to a close 15 years of what has been one of the most successful motorcycle rallies in history. Over the years, almost a quarter of a million guests attended the Honda Hoot which was born in the hills of Asheville, North Carolina and eventually moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. At the first event, a little over 3000 attendees enjoyed what would grow to become one of the largest rallies in North America. |
The Hoot set new precedence for what a motorcycle rally should be, offering not only a wonderful opportunity to test ride new products but also focusing on family fun and growing the industry from the ground up. Based on the current economic crunch which may have significant impact on our customers during 2009, American Honda will take this time to seek out new and innovative ways to engage with our customers so that we can continue to ride together.
American Honda extends our deepest gratitude to the more than 1,300 volunteers who helped make the Honda Hoot a success and to all our event sponsors, to our two host cities, Knoxville, Tennessee and Asheville, North Carolina, and especially to all the good people who helped make the Hoot such a great event.

On April 10th, Governor Mike Beebe signed a Proclamation proclaiming May 2008 as MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH across the State of Arkansas, urging all citizens to increase their awareness of motorcycles and to develop a positive attitude toward sharing the road, thus making our highways safer for all motorists.
Present at the signing were from left to right Chris DePriest (Assistant District Director & MAD Coordinator), Brenda Sessions (Chapter L), Carolyn Frieden (District Director), Mike Beebe (Governor of Arkansas), Dale Frieden (District Director), Jennie McBride (District Educator) and Bill McBride (District Educator)
Our thanks to Brenda Sessions for making the arrangements with the Governors office for this event.

Some of us were riding in the two groups yesterday and are well aware of the accident. Others that are getting word of mouth only are probably worried and getting mixed reports. Chris and Pam DePriest our Chapter C Directors were involved in an accident and before I continue on about it, be it known that they are in great shape considering. Chris is sore in places that he didn't know he had yesteday and Pam is sore and may have a cracked rib but they (the hospital) couldn't confirm for sure because she was a little swollen in the side. They were both released last night about 10:00pm and are home now. Chris went to church this morning and Pam got a little needed rest. Now what happened? You guys that were there can correct me where I am wrong.
We went for a great ride yesterday and because of a good turn-out we split into two groups. Chris and Pam were leading the first group with both of them on Big Bird (Chris's bike). We had made a big circle spanning into Missouri and back down. Group 1 was about 10 minutes ahead of our group and I received a call there had been an accident. Just south of Prim on highway 263 a doe deer ran from the woods towards them on their bike and upon reaching it attempted to jump it. She (the deer) struck Pam in the side and knocked her from the motorcycle where she thinks she landed on her stomach and was sliding face down. The impact caused the bike to go to the side digging a trench in the asphalt with the footpegs and leaving the roadway for the ditch row at a significant speed. Thanks to Chris' riding skills and a GREAT Co-Pilot it was evident that he kept it out of the woods and in the ditch. Both they and their bike received much less damage than you would expect. Like I said though, they are in great shape considering. We are all wishing a speedy recovery. Chris wants his bike fixed fast so he can ride some before his elbow surgery, imagine that lol.
We are all so proud of the action that all involved took to make sure that eveything went safely and the needed medical attention and other neccessaties required to make sure that Chris and Pam were kept safe as well as keeping order with other folks and vehicles till the authorities arrived was handled in a very proffessional and GWRRA manner........GOOD GOING GUYS.
Chapter D's Couple of the Year at Jonesboro was involved in a motorcycle accident Sunday May 27th at Perryville, AR. Alan and Judy Tucker hit a car in the left side around the door. They were not seriously hurt, but she has two bones broke in her foot. She has to go to a specialist this week to let him decide whether she is to have a cast or what. A Mitsubishi pulled out of Wal-Mart in front of them and stopped in their lane. They were going about 30 MPH and it messed their bike up real good.
Remember to keep them in your prayers.
